I was obsessed with anything by L.J. Smith, especially The Secret Circle series.

At the moment it’s Phoebe Robinson from Two Dope Queens. She’s an amazing comedian but she also doesn’t hide that it was a struggle to be where she is. I really respect that and mostly just want to go to brunch with her.

Anais Mitchell at the Hamilton. Her music is the shit.
What was the worst date you’ve ever been on?
We went to a restaurant and chatted for a few hours, but it was 90% about him. I went home and got physically sick I was so stressed out. When I tried to tell him I didn’t want to go on a second date he tried to persuade me that I was wrong about him.
I blocked his number but was worried for a week that he might try to find my house/stalk me.
Who is the woman who inspires you most?
I really love late bloomers, like Deborah Eisenberg, who didn’t get her first story collection published until she was 41. They remind me that just because I haven’t ‘made it’ at 27 like Taylor Swift, doesn’t mean it’s all over yet.

Full time writing whatever I want to and getting paid for it. I want to be a writer that talks about her work on podcasts like Fresh Air or gets to be a cultural critic like on Call Your Girlfriend or Another Round.

Visiting my friend Sammy at her house near Yosemite.
What was the last mind-blowing fact you learned or realized that shifted your worldview?
The only truly effective way we’ve reduced the education gap in America has been integration. Yet, we’d rather waste decades and millions of dollars to look for any other possible solution.

I suck at coming up with costumes…So probably myself.
